Amanda says great things about General Proofreading from Caitlin Pyle! She tells us about her apprehensions and overcoming her fears about the course. Amanda is excited for her future and has gained confidence in herself thanks to Proofread Anywhere!
Hi, you guys. My name is Amanda and I'm from Cedar Rapids, Iowa. I just wanted to share my experience with Caitlin's proofreading course.
Before this course, I was working, and on my days off, I was going to school. So, I had a full-time schedule. Then I got pregnant. That was scary and a surprise, but also super exciting. I decided that I wasn't sure if I wanted to continue going to school and then going into a career that was going to take up a lot of my time that I couldn't spend with my baby. I just started rethinking my plans.
I got online and started searching jobs that I could do from home. One of those jobs is proofreading. I found a link to Caitlin's course, and I watched her video, which was long and informative and super helpful. I just got a lot of hope from it. Working from home, doing editing is kind of the dream that I didn't think was possible. I was really, really hopeful.
Then I saw the price and that was definitely a big concern for me. I wasn't sure if it was worth it. It's a lot of money. The more I thought about it though, I knew it was something I really, really wanted to do. I spent way more than that, maybe four or $5,000 on a single course for school, and this wasn't even close to that. So, I just decided to take the leap.
The part of the course that resonated the most with me was that there was a real market for this and that it's not a far-fetched idea. That really drove me to buckle down and get as much out of this course as I could.
Some actions I've taken since then is leaving my job. This is my last week at the chiropractic office, which is bittersweet for me because I do love it there, but I'm ready to dive head first into my business. I've made my website. Graduating the course was a big win. I think my biggest win from this course was growing in my ability to believe in myself and to not be afraid to fail, and knowing that even if I do fail, I'm the type of person, after doing this, that will continue to do new things and try new things and take new leaps of faith.
I would definitely recommend this course even if proofreading is not your forte, and you decide that afterwards, you'll have tons of resources and community and a framework for marketing any skills that you do have.
That's my story with this course. Thank you guys so much for listening. Have a good one.
