  1. What is the age limit for this type of work. I am a retired analytical chemist. But I need some additional income. I will be 65 in June, 2016. Am I too old for this type of work.

    1. Hi, Lee! In this line of work, the only limit is your dedication to excellence. We have MANY different students of all ages and backgrounds who have successfully completed the course and gone on to establish successful businesses. I highly recommend enrolling in our FREE 7-day course to see for yourself if this is something you’d like to pursue. 🙂

  2. Dear Caitlin,
I am 70 years old and have been retired since 2008. I have several disabilities and wonder if I could keep up with the course.
My poor wife of 44 years, who will be 65 this September, has to work full time for us to pay our bills.
I would love to be able to start a business at home to help her out. Eventually I would hope she might want to join me in the business as well. She is commuting one – and – a – half hours a day.
I would like to converse with her this evening to see what her take on this would be.
Should I wait to sign up after I talk to her?
I do want to start some sort of business on my own, but I prefer she would enjoy joining me later as well. She is an avid reader, and I think she would agree that this would be good for both of us.
Sincerely waiting to hear from you,
    Dennis Sullivan / Florida, U.S.A.

    1. Yes, definitely talk to your wife. If anything, just try the first portion of the course and see how you do. If it’s not for you, there is no obligation to continue and you wouldn’t be out the full tuition at that point 🙂 Maybe your wife can work on the worksheets with you.

  3. Hi Caitlyn,

I signed up for your free 7 day course at about 6:30 this morning and still have not received any emails regarding the course (It is now 3:00 p.m.). Should I go ahead and submit another enrollment form or just wait to hear from you? I’m just really excited to start.

Thank you for sharing your knowledge, advice, and tips. I have been pondering over
finding some sort of work-at-home gig for quite some time now, but have a lot of doubts and fear of being a complete failure at it. I’m 52 and due to various personal issues and family crisis have been unemployed for nearly 11 years. I have lost the self confidence I once had when it came to work and my abilities and felt too obsolete and “old” to be able to make it out in the workforce. Add to that my uncertainty over what type of work I want to do and the hundreds of sites giving advice on working at home……it all became so overwhelming.
Then I came across the interview you gave on Real Ways To Earn Money and checked out your site immediately after. While reading your post on finding the job that best suits you and being able to get started even without prior experience I felt less burdened by the weight of my own self doubts and a little more positive on the possibility of successful results. Your advice on the different types of work, course offerings, support, and encouragement could not have come at a better time for me. It is the encouragement and reassurance that I needed to hear (and to know that it is there, should I need it) has given me back a sense of me. Of course I still fear the ‘failure’ factor, but I’ll keep telling myself that “not having at least tried would be the biggest failure of all,” and I’ll continue to follow you and join your groups to keep the determination going.

    Thank you again,
    Tracy

    1. Hi, Tracy! So glad to have you on board… thanks for sharing more about you, too 😀 Regarding the free intro course emails: I see you’re on Gmail. Check your “Categories” in the Gmail sidebar (lefthand side, on a browser… not a phone or mobile app). Sometimes Gmail routes our stuff into a place other than the primary inbox. Also check Spam, Updates, and Promotions folders. Lastly, doing a search for my email, [email protected], may bring it up, too. I did double check our system, and your name is definitely there 🙂

  4. Here’s a weird question for you:

Is it feasible to complete the jumpstart program from my iPhone? I don’t have an iPad yet and was thinking about working on it during downtime at my current job.

    Thanks in advance!
    Erica

    1. I really wouldn’t try it on a phone, but you don’t need an iPad for Jumpstart. Access to any computer with internet access will do! And you probably want to print out many (or all!) of the worksheets, so a printer would be useful too.

  5. Hello.
I wonder if you have any other lines of proofreading such as books, manuscripts or even medical?
I took a few medical terminology classes in college and I love to read, so I feel I would be more suited for these lines of work.
    Thanks!

    1. Hi, Patti! Your knowledge of medical terminology would actually come in handy proofreading transcripts as they really do cover the gamut of topics… including cases that have a lot to do with the medical field. You’d be doing less Googling on those cases! 😀 Many of our students and graduates do also delve into proofreading of other sorts — the skill set gained here does transfer well — but, no, we do not offer training and education geared specifically to those areas. Hope this helps!

    2. The pay just isn’t very good for books or manuscripts. Medical knowledge is a HUGE asset to court reporters, though. Medical malpractice suits, personal injury, insurance, etc. all involve medical terminology 🙂

  6. Sorry if the answer to this question should be obvious, but I’ve read through the entire site and still don’t know… Do I have to be able to hear in order to take this course/do this work? Are the “transcripts” written material or audio recordings? My work experience before my sudden hearing loss included a good deal of written presentation and extensive knowledge of medical terminology. I now volunteer to do manuscript proofreading of Bible study lessons produced by the ministerial staff at my church. But my hearing loss is categorized “severe-profound” and so, if there are any audio requirements – either for the courses or ultimately performing the work for clients; then it is not for me. Thank you.

    1. Hi, Christine! You don’t need to listen to audio recordings to do this course or to do the job. While some proofreaders offer audio services, most don’t. (It takes a lot longer and you’re tied to more equipment than just your iPad.) All of the videos have transcripts except for the couple that are outside videos. Hope this helps!

  7. Hi,
I’m from Canada and I’m wondering if this course is compatible with the Canadian system?. Or does my nationality matter? Am I correct in thinking the majority of clients would be American? And if do, I suppose I could still work for them? I travel quite a bit and this work would fit in very well with my life.

  8. Hello,

Is it necessary to complete the iAnnotate portion of the course by purchasing an iPad, or can that portion be completed without the iPad?

    Thank you

    1. An iPad isn’t an absolute requirement, but it is highly recommended. You can read Caitlin’s reasoning and find out about some alternatives here: Why iPad? You don’t need the iPad or equivalent until the Next Steps sections, which is Modules 3 through 5. Hope this helps!

  9. Hi, I was just wondering if this is suitable for someone in Australia or is just suitable for the Northern hemisphere?

  10. I have 40 years of experience as a medical transcriptionist and am now retired. I am 63 and looking to do some part time work and this sounds right up my alley! I can truthfully say I am a spelling perfectionist and don’t like to see misspelled words on anything! Im looking to work at least 16 hrs a wk and would like to know more about this.

    1. Hi Becky,

We have a free 7-day intro course available for folks to get their feet wet and see if this course is something they’d be interested in. Go to http://www.proofreadanywhere.com and click on the big orange button that says “ENROLL NOW” under the main photo. There is no cost and no obligation.

  11. Is it possible to provide proofreading services to US courts or businesses as a non US resident? Do you have any examples of this? How do they get paid?

    1. I’m sorry to hear that! I tried it and it’s working fine on our end. Please try clearing your cache, and use a Google Chrome browser because it seems to work best with our course material. Make sure it’s updated to the latest version, and please make sure your downloads (redirects) and popups settings are enabled in the Chrome browser settings.
